My 1997 SS
« on: September 10, 2015, 11:35:17 AM »
I made an intro thread a few years ago when I joined, but never made a project thread, so here it is. My truck is '97 SS with factory ZQ8 suspension. It's been my daily driver for 5 years and over that time I've replaced or upgraded almost every part you can think of on it. It's been pretty reliable, the major things I've replaced over the years is the transmission, heater core, and LIM gaskets.

Starting with the outside the mods I've done are pretty basic. Blazer composite headlight conversion, Sonoma hood, street scene mirrors, window tint, tonneau cover, and LED tail lights.

The motor is pretty much stock. It has a Volant CAI, bigger y-pipe, and Magnaflow exhaust. It's not the fastest thing in the world but it can still run a 15.2 quarter mile which is good enough for me.

The front suspension consists of Belltech 2102 spindles with C5 brakes, tall upper and lower ball joints, and Spohn UCAs. Over the winter I replaced all of the steering components with MOOG, along with stock replacement lower control arms, springs, and bump stops.

The rear suspension is just 3" JTR blocks and setback plates. I put new sway bar end links and bushings on as well.

C5 brakes behind the SLP ZR1 wheels. The rear is Blazer discs

I'm currently running on 245/45-17 Dunlop ZII Star Specs

I've been autocrossing it for fun for a little over two years, and just recently did my first track day which I made a thread about here -> http://www.pro-tourings10.com/index.php?topic=2396.msg13641#new

You can find a lot of my autocross videos on my Youtube channel -> https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRCI5TNGDm6we0pq2rL2YpA

Great looking truck. It's a full second faster in the 1/4 than my truck was the only time I can it - I think I managed a 16.2 at 84 mph without even a squeek out of the tires  :P

Are you running a GTO spare tire?

Yes I am, good eye! My original 16" steel spare would not clear the C5 brakes. I bought the GTO spare off ebay and had to have the center of the wheel bored out a few mm to fit over the hub.

I totally forgot that my spare wouldn't fit the front any more until I spotted that hanging in your pic! I guess I'm in the market now!
