Post by: Goatley on June 27, 2012, 01:57:20 PM
Anyone on here ever done one? I have one in a regal body and I know its almost the same frame, but not really. Just wondered what Im fixing to get into cause they work out good on the power if ya know what to do.

I've seen where a few guys have done grand national swaps before.

Yeah, I've seen the 3.8T swaps, but not a 3800. I had an Impala with the 3400 a while back, and my dad still has one with a 3800, and the engine mounts are going to be a REAL chore. Possible, but completely one off. And I don't even know where to start with harness, I would probably say find a 3800 camaro harness to start with then start cutting.

I hope to be doing 3800 SII into 87 s10 frame this summer ... and documenting it, just because in my searching too I've found very little actual info other then "this guy did it" .. and a shot of the engine under the hood.   From my looking at 3800 rwd swaps (I'm starting with a rwd donor, but it doesn't matter SII and up mounting wise ) it looks like the SBC swap plates may offer a good starting point.  I'm also starting with a 2.8 truck so the easy half is done hahaha

Those mounts LOOK very similar to the brackets i've seen made for the 3800 ... however i'm not to the point of physically holding a set to a motor dangling next to the 2.8 pads to see how useable they are ... yet .

Don't know if anyone cares anymore LOL

Haven't been around... or anywhere physically closer, between college and some really messed up weather locally, I haven't gotten the stuff or work done I need to, to move on to getting the Fbody front cut here ) ... but I have been researching a bunch

it appears the Gbody (regal/GN type folks) have found a solution.. Supposidely on the S2/3 after cutting and smoothing a casting boss at the mounting holes on the block... stock 3.8 buick mounts slide the 3800 into the Gbody...

now if the Gbody 3.8 mounts slide into an S10 frame ... we may have an easy solution.

The S2/3 3800 boards have sort of dried up for activity as people move on to the newest and greatest motor swaps, cars, etc ... my build will be getting a stocker Fbody N/A 3800 just to get it set up and moving..etc I think I've talked myself into finding an L67 and doing a twin turbo build while shaking down the rod with the stocker n/a 3800

g-body mounts are unfortunately very differerent from S10 mounts, despite all that carries over in the front end, however it may be a very good place to start, with some slotting and grinding, they may even be made to work, or you may just need an additional plate between the engine and mount to move it forwards, unless you want to really get into firewall modifications.

Did this ever get done as I am interested in doing this as well. Very little information that I have found so far.
