What heads for my TBI 305 build?

Goals are simple, 300hp with an LT-1 cam, 5500rpm first to second shift point and as little work needed as possible to bolt on and go. I don't mind at all cleaning them up and everything, but I just can't see my way to a huge machine shop bill.

The options are:

Junkyard 305 Vortec heads, almost impossible to find in good condition, would probably require valve job, but that's it. $150.

6000 mile rebuilt 062 Vortec heads, would still need milled for the 305. $300

Very good condition ~60K mile L98 heads, ready to bolt on off running C4. $400

I'm leaning towards just spending the extra up front and getting the good L98s, but would really appreciate everyone's input. I can swing the L98s, but would mean taking a little longer to get the brake stuff from FNB.

Thanks Guys!

L98. Assuming they're the best option haha, I don't do motors...

But i'd rather spend the money now and build it good yet affordable compared to not be happy with the cheaper route and have to re-do it, including a gasket set which is another sayyy $150 to change it. Plus, who knows what scrapyard heads will need.

L98 and 350 vortecs make very similar power, the 305 vortecs will make a bit more torque but quite a bit less horsepower, the L98s however are aluminum, so there is a substantial weight savings.

Doesn't sound like you'd be as happy with the 305 heads?  If those are scratched out and for the same price and similar performance aluminum seems the easy choice.

I'm going to stop by the yard up here and put a deposit on the heads and cam so they can pull them for me and I'll be able to pick them up next week. Hopefully I have enough out of the rent and my next paycheck to get the gaskets and stud sets so I can actually start putting this baby together. Now I just have to decide between blue and black for the engine...
