Not exactly an s-series OR protouring, but what the hey..

If you guys don't want this thread here, just say so. Figured i'd share my excitement and feed off of the vast knowledge around.

Picked up this '78 Datsun 620 tonight. Payed $900 for it, which is too much, but it's off a friend of mine who needs the money and it's a fairly rare truck so I went for it.

Body is pretty solid on the outside, and all the glass is near perfect. Little bit of rot on the lower fender but nothing major at all. Floors are completely gone, frame has huge holes in it, the usual Datsun stuff.





Storing it at my good friend's house for now, I don't have the room at home and it won't get touched for a while. Should have my own shop in 2-3 months though.





I plan to cut out the cab floor, build a chassis for it using Nissan 240sx subframes front and rear including rack and struts. It's a fairly simple concept, just going to take some fabrication skills. I don't plan to tackled that part solo, just for the record. I know a few guys who could do it no problem.

I love those!  A friend of mine had one in highschool and I've wanted one ever since.

Doesn't really have that "nickle dime" verbal appeal, but still, VERY cool!

We love all projects here, that's why we've made an entire extra board for Non-S10 based projects. Hell, the site owner is building a ranger.

Didn't know there was a separate section, this is in the s10/blazer section haha. Of someone wants to move it... Or leave it, who cares haha. I'm super stoked on this build.

Already taken care of, now go build a truck, you've got like 3 now, or is it four?

Oh, and what's the purpose of the build, Formula-D or S&G?

I see that now haha my bad, I'm on my phone. I have three trucks. My red 91 with a 350, my new black 91 ext can with a 2.8, and now the Datsun. I'll be fixing the red one first, exhaust broke AGAIN and I'm gonna link it on coilovers before I start the Datsun.

Honestly, competitive drifting is ghey. Some people take it too seriously, you get less track time, and the judging is impossible to make fair. I'm building this truck to enjoy, not to compete. I'll enter CSCS which is the time attack/drifting/show and shine series around here. 5 rounds every year I believe.

Sweet score!  I just recently decided my next project should be a 620.  Really neat trucks with lots of swap potential.  Could be a really fun truck!  Keep us updated when you start work on it.  Sure it's not a dime, but it's still a mini truck.

Inspiration. It's the outline of what I wanna do, just way cleaner than I'll be doing it haha. I'm likely going the "rat rod" look. Form > function.
