C4 conversion brackets for single piston spindles
« on: September 09, 2009, 06:23:14 PM »
Here's some brackets & dimentions that I have been trying to get together. I need 3/4" between the abutment bracket & spindle. I'm figuring use a 3/8" plate w/ a 3/8" spacer to acheive the 3/4" dimention. I'll attach a drawing w/ specs (that's not drawn to scale).

more pix..

Here's the hubs I decided on using. They are '68 camaro DRUM brake hubs (on the right) that have metric studs banged into them. You can see the difference in hub flange spacing compared to a stock S10/G body brake disc (on the left & I cut the rotor off for an easier comparison). The older camaro hub uses the same A6 inner bearing as the S10 spindle. The outers are different.. but don't worry the A2 has the same race as the S10s' A34. A34 & A6 are the bearings found in S10s & work w/ these hubs.

Here's how the '68 camaro hub fits into the C4 vette rotor.. unmolested hub! Great fit.

Is the 3/4" for the vette hubs?

I see Iowa spindles :)

Last but not least.. the bracket (made from 3/4" plywood for test fitting) & the crappy drawing.

Can you get me the OD of the hub? I don't feel like cutting mine down and I could just space out the bracket too.

The 3/4" lets me get a bracket in there & also helps space out my wheels so I don't need to run a huge spacer (if any at all) w/ the C4 Z51 wheels. The difference in hub flanges is about 1" =/- 1/8"

I didn't touch the stock S10 hub. I used a '68 camaro's hub, uncut. The hub from the camaro needs to be for a drum brake setup.

Let me just see if I'm following, you're using a stock S10 spindle, an adapter bracket for C4 brakes, a camaro front hub for drum brakes and a C4 rotor and caliper? Do you know if this will fit on a drop spindle?

by using the camaro hub, that means you are ditching ABS right?  cause there's no sensor ring.

Yes, that's correct. Yes, it will fit a dropped spindle because all the bolt hole locations are the exact same as a factory spindle.

You would be correct. But, you could always machine a groove into the hub & press on the reluctor ring for ABS... I don't plan on retaining the ABS & therefore don't give a crap about it.

Very cool. I installed a wilwood C4 four piston kit on my dad's 96 LT1 vette and was very impressed with it. Damn good price for a four piston kit considering it comes with 12 or 13 inch two piece rotors, if I end up using a 2wd spindle I'll likely steal your dimensions and grab the dimensions off of wilwood's adapter and make a single adapter to do the job of both, probably will need a different depth rotor hat as well, but I should be able to get that dimension from their camaro conversion kit and their G-body kit. I'll start a new thread if I get it figured out! Do really appreciate your work on this. The more options the better!

I have a set of Wilwood 4-piston calipers I was selling.. maybe if you come up w/ a bracket I could use them instead of the OEM vette calipers (even though I got brand spankin new C4 calipers). Still be neat if you posted your design/brake project

This all sounds good! Do you have it all bolted up yet to know it all works? What do you think you have invested in this conversion? I would be very interested in doing the samething. Thanks for all the info!

I have about $300 invested & that's in new parts.. only things not new are the abutment brackets. Still waiting when Ricky & his buddy get some time to cut me brackets.

I was looking at the 1968 camaro hubs and I see the outer wheel bearings are different size. How did you handle that? Also the hu seals are different size? Let me know if you have calipers for sale. Thanks.

I responded to that in your other thread.. use the A2 & A34 (inner & outter) bearings. The difference between the two outter bearings is the inner diameter of the bearing. The race & outter diameter are the exact same as the S10's bearing set. I have 2 calipers here they are both driver side calipers.. they should be listed in my stuff for sale.

There isn't a single pic or link that works in this thread.

Could someone give me all of the dimensions needed for the bracket so I can make my own? Much thanks.
