The honest answer?  Wheel size.  But didn't I just upgrade to 18's? Hmmmm.  I have been eyeing those V calipers for awhile...

yes you did....
I doubt amazon prices for those are really going to go down anytime soon. might as well stock up and have eye candy :)

There's also the C6 Z06 Calipers.  With those the front costs about $815.

The Front Right Caliper for the V is already up $40 since that article was posted yesterday.  Their price seems to fluctuate based on stock, though.

There's also the C6 Z06 Calipers.

I'm curious on how the c6z calipers compare to the second gen ctsv calipers.

They're both 6 piston calipers.  The V uses 1 pad per side of the caliper and the Z06 uses individual pads for each piston.  Front brakes for that V will run about $915 from Amazon, $870 if you like Yellow and willing to wait on backorder calipers.

I do have 18s, but that extra inch just won't buy much in our trucks.

but which has better stiffness?
I know brembo made the V's, did PBR make the c6z's?

i personally don't think I'd like the pad per piston concept.

and i never dug into which has what piston area

Maybe I can convince Al to search around to see if the stiffness information is floating around.  I might also see if I can learn from a friend how to do any simple caliper/bracket/etc analysis.  Would be handy with all the parts in 3D already and the CAE tools handy.

Piston area and manufacturer should be easy enough for me to look up.

Phrasing.

I can be talked into a scavenger hunt. What am I looking for?

Are we not doing that anymore?

Caliper deflection (spread) per hydraulic pressure (or clamp force = spread force) comparing the c6z caliper vs 2nd gen ctsv caliper.
Or just a way to figure out which is a "better" caliper since cost isn't all that different.

Al found an answer to your original question.  Z06 rotors + other calipers = over/underhung pads.

I have no issue with over/underhung pads. As long as you are keeping track of the extra material, you'll never have an issue.
If you're running an endurance race you might just preemptively grind that "extra" pad material off.

Our FSAE car always had pad overhang because we had custom calipers and didn't get custom pads, so we modified off-the-shelf pads which resulted in extra friction material past the rotor.

That's a LOT of overhang though, ouch. Would like to see what standard C5/6 calipers on them look like though.

I retain 1/2" just doesn't buy you much, but I'll make sure your mom agrees next time I see her.;)

http://www.thirdgen.org/forums/brakes/683114-camaro-ss-cts-v.html

But that looks like a much easier problem to solve.

Ryo- I didn't find your answer about comparing calipers.

I did find some examples of someone who tried fitting this up and was discouraged-
http://www.montecarloss.com/community/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=924102

And an example of someone who bought a kit to do this on his blazer drop spindles-
The company is FlyNBye

Didn't see it on their website right away, but here's a bar for putting non-z06 calipers on a 14" rotor on a blazer spindle
http://www.flynbye.com/catalog/i257.html

I found ZZ4 and Harley's posts on other forums while digging for this, so I'm guessing its old news. Linking anyways to put all the info in one spot.
