The honest answer? Wheel size. But didn't I just upgrade to 18's? Hmmmm. I have been eyeing those V calipers for awhile...
There's also the C6 Z06 Calipers.
They're both 6 piston calipers. The V uses 1 pad per side of the caliper and the Z06 uses individual pads for each piston. Front brakes for that V will run about $915 from Amazon, $870 if you like Yellow and willing to wait on backorder calipers.
I do have 18s, but that extra inch just won't buy much in our trucks.
Maybe I can convince Al to search around to see if the stiffness information is floating around. I might also see if I can learn from a friend how to do any simple caliper/bracket/etc analysis. Would be handy with all the parts in 3D already and the CAE tools handy.Piston area and manufacturer should be easy enough for me to look up.
math is stupid.

Al found an answer to your original question. Z06 rotors + other calipers = over/underhung pads.http://www.thirdgen.org/forums/brakes/683114-camaro-ss-cts-v.html
