clutch pedal removal
« on: January 12, 2017, 07:14:24 PM »
hey guys,

im brainstorming some changes to the clutch  pedal i might want to make.
How difficult is dropping the clutch pedal out at the top pivot without pulling the dash?

I havent peeked up there yet but wondering if anyone knows off hand.
i think it hangs off the big cast aluminum thing but its been too long i dont remember if it was a bolt or a pin or what

If you don't figure it out sooner text me Monday afternoon. I'll be out at the shop then or Tuesday morning and have at least one of the pedal mounts on the shelf and can take some pictures.

I don't remember exactly how, but I'm sure it is pinned. I'd pull the dash, but I'm me....

There's supposed to be a spring-loaded pin in the top of the pedal arm that slips into a hole in that aluminum block. I have one in the barn (out of the truck) that I can take a look at this weekend.

There's a hole on either side of the pedal mount with a spring-loaded pin. I don't know how easy it will be reach the holes when this is installed in the truck but you may be able to release the pedal by just popping one pin.

I'm 99% certain they're buried too deep. Both are on the back side of the casting behind the bolting surfaces.

damn, thanks for checking!

I wonder if pulling the dash cluster might provide access? I don't remember what it looks like behind there...

Solid plastic wall behind the cluster.

S10 dash is less than an hour to take out.

I grabbed some pictures of the bracket mounted to the spare cab the other day.

Still doesn't look very accessible, but perhaps the left side can be pushed in with the dash on.  Right side is definitely buried.

The other option would be to pick up a second pedal assembly at the junk yard, cut yours out without tearing down the dash, and then pop in the new assembly. That can be done without removing that bracket according the 5 speed swap threads on S10F.
