LH8 dipstick question
« on: March 04, 2017, 11:54:19 AM »
Hey guys, I've been slowly chipping away at this one and came across a strange bit that google isn't easily helping me with.

This is an 04 LM4 (aluminum 5.3 from an envoy) so I had to drill the dipstick tube hole so I can use the LH8 (H3 alpha) oilpan.

I bought the brand new GMPP oil pan kit, so the dipstick tube, dipstick, pickup tube, pan all came in a single box.

but after assembling it, it looks to me like the dipstick is way too short.

as in to get the oil level reading on the dipstick right, the oil will be full in the pan almost to the windage tray.

Does this seem right to you guys?

it's hard to imagine i drilled the wrong angle and the dipstick tube is meant to go "outside" the pickup tube

and a pic with the pan for reference.

thoughts?

Not sure on your answer but my L33 would take 6 qts at oil change to read full on stick with Hummer/GMPP oil pan.

Text me on Monday and I'll take a quick look at the CAD for machining the block.

Are you getting the tube most if not all the way in? I remember chatting about having trouble with that the last time I was over.

i reamed the hole out a bit so the dipstick is now fully inserted (bottomed out)
I'll shoot you a text in a bit
