315 35's on a 9.5" wheel - would you?
« on: September 26, 2017, 05:33:03 AM »
I've read dozens of posts on this and know they're technically too wide for a 9.5" wheel but I also know lots and lots of auto-x guys do it to stay in their class. Found an incredible deal on new Toyo R888's (like 65% off) in that specific size only and I'm wondering whether I should pull the trigger. They'd only be used for auto-x on my firebird - swapped on at the track. My other option is to get new 18x10.5" or 11" wheels to improve the selection of wide tires and make fitment easier (at 2 or 3 times the cost).

Would you do it or is it just too wide for that wheel?

I've got my NT01 315/30R18 on 10" wheels. They definitely bulge quite a bit if you haven't noticed. My friend who mounted them at Discount said he had to pull every trick in his book to get them on both times I bought a pair.

I'm not sure if I would or wouldn't, but I know they will be difficult to mount. Definitely understand the position you're in as I'd love to have paid 65% less for mine without buying new wheels.

buy them, worry about wheels later.
obviously you're just buying them for sticky tires to have fun with.
R888s just aren't a competitive tire for autoX, so who cares as long as they mount up.
even if 275s are faster on your current wheels, you'll be paying more for less rubber right?
my blazer is cooler than your s10

Thanks for the input. I'll make sure I don't have to do anything crazy to make them fit but otherwise I may just pull the trigger. I've run 275/40 R888's before and they were about on par with my NT05s but they're below 200TW. I've never cared about PAX though, I just want to go faster without spending a pile of money.

Well, they're ordered! I'll keep my eyes open for a set of old ZR1 17x11's over the winter but if not, I'll just run them on the 9.5's.
