I'm thinking aboot doing some throttle body mods on a super-low budget to  get my power up a bit till I can get an engine, build it, get the swap parts, and find time to put it in and one of the most prominent is adding some plenum area to the intake via a throttle body spacer, and building a spacer to get the injectors up out of the flow path for the venturis better.

I know "phenolic" is among if not the best material for this, however, there are about a dozen different fiberglass composites made with phenolic resin, I can't find any pre-cast solid phenolic, so I'm wondering what other materials might be a good choice?

I know Rylon, a fluorpolymer has the highest heat resistance of pretty much any plastic, but it's obscenely expensive, how much heat should I really worry about 300F, 400F?

you use the "phenolic" material to prevent heat soak between the intake manifold and the throttle body, and as a spacer between the intake manifold and the head for the same reason.  lowers intake temps for MO POWR!

Not just more power, but better fuel economy and greater longevity for the engine and the fuel system, since it's not having to recycle as hot of fuel, and you're getting denser fuel at the injectors, so their dwell can go down. Lower IATs are just better, and you're going to go through the trouble, why not do it right?

well since you are going through the trouble, you can stuff a water/air intercooler there, and well, since you have those now, boooooost!

Well, given that the total area of the throttle bores is right about 5.5 square inches, I don't think I could dissipate any where near enough heat to compensate for the loss in flow due to the radiator. That is ignoring the space constraints and that there are no readily available radiators of a compatible size and the added weight of not only the metal intercooler, but the fluid, lines and additional radiator in front of the grill. Thanks for the suggestion though, smart ass. :-P

As far as liquid cooling the TBI spacer: I had a rough thought... Why not use a CPU style liquid radiator? It works the same and can sustain itself. Sorta like when people build liquid cooled Xbox360's because they crash all the time, same goes for liquid cooled gaming computers.
