I don't know too aweful much about the newer computer controlled transmissions, but I know higher line pressures, and higher throttle required for downshift are both good for longevity. I can give an example for the 700R4, 4 to 3rd downshift will normally happen wtih 50% throttle, however at that low of throttle you don't get pressure up very quickly, if you change the TV plunger and the 2-4 band pressure spring you can bump that downshift to 85% throttle which will help keep from warping the sun gear when it's getting beaten back and forth between 3rd and 4th on the track.
