stock trottle body mods
« on: December 20, 2010, 08:16:39 PM »
Not that this will do that much, but I had some time and found a TB in the junkyard and decided to port and polish it out.  A company on Ebay sells these and claim they are ported out bigger than stock but you can only go as big as the upper manifold and I'm not paying for a stock modded TB when I can do it myself.  I also removed the metal blocker plate from the back side of the butterfly

I'll get some before pictures when I change out my stock one.

There is a small lip inside that I ground out and smoothed then polished the inside down to 2000 grit and buffed it out, I need to sand some more out and polish it again, but this is where I am now

it's about time to swap out the stock for the modded

cut the top half of the trottle bar off, cut down the torq screws, and put a blade edge on the top of the butterfly

I know a lot of people do the shaft mod with great success but I just had a friend who had this happen:

Of course he drives a DSM, so you have to take that into account. lol

I cut the extra plate off mine a few years ago and was happy with the mod.  I've heard you have to be careful with the boring because it can mess up your idle though.

It depends a lot on the throttle body for the idle issues, the LS1 was very prone to the issue, the truck throttle bodies don't have nearly the problems, I'm not sure about many of the others though.

Dremel and my hands with some sand paper

I put some marks on the TB and blade so I knew how much I was taking off, not to mess with idle

It was really more of a polish and blade mod
