AC condensor as an oil cooler?
« on: December 22, 2010, 05:50:27 PM »
how plausible is using an AC condensor as an oil cooler?
will it flow enough fluid?
will it be oil compatible?
will it hold up to the pressure? heat?

my blazer is cooler than your s10

Pressure and heat won't be a problem I can gaurantee you that, they hold over 100psi with the system not running, and are drawn down to the 50-60s with it running and in AZ with the AC on full, I'm sure they heat soak to well over 200° and they're usually solid copper tubing with decent brazing work.

As for the flow, that is going to be your hang-up. I'm rather sure that internally they're not going to be more than 3/8" tubing, which is quite small for an inline oil cooler.

as for copper etc, this condensor im looking at is from a 98 s10. so i think its aluminum

stacked plate design, looks like this

If it is a stacked plate, it will not flow enough, especially not cold. Do you have a picture of the other end?

wouldnt a coil w/ fins have a bigger pressure drop across inlet to outlet? (assuming a large size)

I'm away at the parents house for th holidays but can get picks when i get back next year
