Hey guys, off-topic project question you guys might know about.

Considering making a trailer from scratch, and would be nice to have 5x4.75" hubs, which isnt a common pattern for trailers.

but s10 front hub/rotor is on a dead spindle size, which I thought I have heard is quite standard on trailers?

anyone know if this is true, and if so, where do I buy this correct geometry spindle as a weld-on spindle?

the other option is to get some stock spindles, cut the axle (spindle) out of it, and weld that onto a tube, but im not sure I want to destroy the heat treat on the stock spindles....

what size trailer are you making?   something to haul the truck on?

Tractor supply sells a lot of trailer parts.

you can get an axle with a pair of hubs for $160.  I'm sure you could do some scrap yard runs and find some trailer axles too.

no, more of a camping trailer. something like a teardrop trailer, but i want it to have more gadgets. keeping it (as usual) a very budget-minded project.
hoping to keep the axle cost well under $100, could use the s10's after i swap that out, but its kinda an inefficient trailer axle + kinda narrow too

as a follow-up, i did cut up an s10 upright to press the spindle out of, and my trailer project has begun

started with a freebie pop-up camper with a family of mice in it, stripped it all down to bare frame, and made a "subframe" which the entire suspension assembly bolts to, which in turn bolts to the frame of the pop-up.

well, here are the plans

suspension started with cutting/pressing out the dead spindles from a junkyard chevy s10.

then i turned some 'adapter sleeves' to press the spindles into, and then 'adapt' to a more convenient OD to slip into a standard tube.

and then welded up a subframe and control arms

and look, assemblage

aand now it rolls on its own wheels

need to turn some spacers and then i can bolt on the shocks, leftovers from a previous project

and then i can start the woodwork.

Great work so far.  I'm digging the wooden front wheel.
