no looonger a longbed, but a hatch this time?
« on: October 09, 2011, 04:58:55 PM »
As i bought it

first thing i did was a quick wash and wax. poor paint looked like it had been neglected for quite some time, so even though it'll be in the garage, i wanted some initial protection

got it to shine pretty good for original 23 year old paint

Rx7, meet torque

pulled up some carpet and found 2" of standing water. yay!

yup, cant justify building 2 cars for the same purpose. and cant keep the s10 around for another v8 deal, because the next one will go in the toyota.

I'm so disappointed that I'll never see your truck with those big ol wheels tucked underneath. I was really looking forward to seeing how you were going to do the widening. I'm really sorry to read about your dog to, that's terrible man.

I can see why you've decided to go the route you have. There is only so much you can do to these trucks before you are doing everything one-off to get to somewhere suitable. I hope you'll stick around and continue to share your knowledge & expertise with us however.

Aaaaand its out.

buut damn working alone pulling an engine sucks.
almost killed the rx7 already....
the load lever i bought with the cherry picker... the stops are just nuts tacked onto the threaded shaft.
almost dropped the whole engine/trans onto my front end because the back nut's tacks broke off and flew away, tipping the whole load back about an inch... luckily the black thing got wedged and didnt drop. another quarter inch of sliding and the engine woulda been on the ground through my front end

So today I was finally gonna have by t56 bolted up the the lm7 for the first time.
got all the parts I gathered together and went to work.
didnt get very far because the unknown brand aluminum flywheel I got is flat, and the ls7 clutch/pressure plate doesnt seem to work.

quick google images shows stepped flywheels

so, what flywheel do i have, and are there parts to adapt it to make it work, or do i need to find a ls7 flywheel now?

You have the standard LS2 flywheel, if memory serves, could include older LSx series as well. I believe the newer LS9, LS3 and LSA all use the stepped as well, but not completely sure.

If I could get on my crashed computer I would show you a picture of a gen 3 rx7 with a turbo LS1, reversed intake and intercooler inside the cab, it was sick and clean

I should have known GM would do something silly like splitting the LS2s as well...

I saw one of these builds last summer at a local speed shop. It was almost finished and it looked wicked. One thing they did was cut open the cowl, and made an air filter box fit. Then they reversed the intake on the LS and ran a short (very Short) chunk of polished aluminum tubing from the mass air flow sensor, into the air box in the cowl. To me it appeared like the stock hood would clear, but I don't know for sure.
