Another UB machine UCA thread
« on: February 22, 2013, 11:55:07 AM »
I've spent half an hour searching now, and can't seem to find it. Who should I talk to at UB Machine to order my UCA's, and what's the part # for the c10 uppers?

Sorry guys..

Gave em a call, 3-5 weeks on all control arms. Need to make some cross shafts. C10 uppers ordered, can't wait to get the front together.

Arms are supposed to be $55 a piece, correct? I got a $300 charge to my credit card... have to check the billing and make sure then call UB. Not happy so far.

Speedway motors sells Metric body UCAs for circle track. I ordered up 2 rights. 8.0"... Lefts are 8.5". The pair was just under $100 shipped... but you need to get ball joints.

I had issues getting my UB arms as well but mine were only the 2nd set of our S10 ones they'd ever made and the 1st with a metric balljoint mount.  They didn't even have part numbers at the time, I had to ask for one of the employees by name and explain that I wanted a copy of the one's Michael helped design.  It was quite a while before they got things figured out.

I got the UB Machine arms last week.  Only $120 shipped, but took nearly two months to get them.  I purchased the cheapest C10 ball joints I could find to run with them.

Also part numbers are in my front suspension sticky (that needs a bunch more work)

Control Arms:

UB Machine upper control arms are a popular choice.  Dusterbd13, an S10 enthusiast and member of this site went through the trouble of designing these arms with UB Machine to take advantage of tall spindles or tall ball joints.  It is a shorter arm with other geometry improvements.  UB Machine provides two ball joint plate options.  Arms with either a C10 ball joint plate or S10 ball joint plate can be ordered.  Part numbers are below.

C10 Ball Joint Upper Control Arms

Left - 15-0739-6L
Right - 15-0739-6R

S10 Ball Joint Upper Control Arms

Left - 14-0739-6L
Right - 140739-6R

Thanks Harley. I got the part numbers off the s10 forum link posted earlier. Thanks whoever that was, haha. The guy that answered the phone wasn't very helpful at all, alot of "uhhhhhhh, okay one sec" and such. That's why I was asking for a specific name on whom to speak to.

I'm waiting on a copy of the credit card bill to call them back and talk to whomever deals with billing. I'm using a shipping address in Niagara Falls, NY so shipping shouldn't be more than $30 MAX. Friend says $300 was charged. That's not good.

I'm aware of wait time, he said 3-5 weeks on crossshafts. No problem. Price? Problem.

Yeah, that's crazy. I went with the speedway too, didn't catch them on sale and went for the chromoly with steel shaft and they're genuinely decent arms.

The speedway arms I got are aluminum cross shafts but they're chromemoly arms.

Original question was the name of an individual to contact regarding the arms, I recall Tony or someone being behind the arm design etc?

I'm quite certain that Tony was the main POC on them, not sure if he was the one to design them. I am however also quite certain that he no longer works there.

Disregard all billing concerns, UB has not charged me yet. Friend's credit card statement came and she cleared up the issue, the amount taken we thought was UB, was actually another charge.

My mistake

Cool, thanks. I'm just gonna ride out the waiting time and wait to hear from them, Like I mentioned, there are no billing problems, that was my mistake. I'm sure they'll charge me once the crossshafts are made and the arms get sent out. Can't wait to get my suspension together!

For those in the know - how much movement is too much movement in the steel-on-steel bushings in the UB arms?  How does one know when they're worn out?

I would think a similar tolerance to balljoints and such, if it makes a noise it's a good time to replace em? They're affordable, thats for sure. Not like they're going to break if they're a little worn out, things could just get squirrely.

They make noise right out of the box but they seemed to be making more in the last year.

HMMM, my ub arms have made no noise at all that I can hear, and I drive mine daily. Ive kept them well greased and have had no issues.
